Each and every child deserves to grow up safe, yet millions endure abuse in silence. At CPGN, a nonprofit committed to global child protection, we confront a harsh reality: cultural norms, fear, and systemic failures keep abuse hidden. To break this silence, we must first understand why it persists—and how compassion, education, and collective action can dismantle it.
For example, in tight-knit communities, disclosing abuse by a relative can fracture family ties, leaving victims without support.
Cultural narratives often normalize abuse or dismiss it as “discipline.” In some regions:
A 2021 WHO report revealed that 1 in 3 children globally experience violence, yet less than 10% seek help due to cultural barriers.
We also encourage critical conversations around harmful discipline practices—Is corporal punishment abuse? Learn how outdated methods can leave lasting emotional scars.
In rural areas, families often don’t have access to enough education or resources. This can leave them unaware of their rights or how to get help. As a result, emotional harm may go unnoticed or unaddressed. Learn more about the importance of addressing emotional abuse in childhood and how awareness can make a difference.
In Guatemala, CPGN’s partnership with Mayan leaders reduced unreported cases by 40% in 2023 by blending tradition with child rights education.

Im a survivor of DV, my oldest daughter also is a survivor of DV.
Now my youngest daughter is in a DV relationship. Her bf has turned her against the family saying we are toxic. Her bf is abusing her son and it’s like we cant do anything about it because this man knows how to clean it all up. Hes put fear in my grandson so he stays silent. They even went as far as saying im trying to kidnapp him so he doesn’t talk to me. It’s so sad because my daughters live in the same building just different floors. You can hear my grandson screaming g in pain from this man and not CPS not the police no one believes us. It’s not till he ki*lls my grandson that they are going to actually intervene. It’s heart breaking listening to his screams and that man asking him who did you talk to today who did you talk to? Then he starts calming him down telling him to breathe. The neighbor said hes heard disturbing things next door and how that man has a story for my daughter to say after hes hit her. It’s so scary just waiting on the day someone tells me hes k*lled my grandson or my daughter or both I cant think at work it’s so heartwrenching seeing your daughter protect this monster. She doesn’t realize the danger her and her children are in.
